USITT National Conference, Long Beach (2026): Distressing Fluids: Permanent Wet-look Breakdown Techniques

This was a 2-hour workshop taught in the hands-on laboratory at the United States Institute of the technology conference in 2026. Students made a variety of disgusting. wet-look samples, including blood, vomit, alien/zombie, fluids, and more!

Canadian Alliance of Film and Television costume Arts and Design (2025): Special Effects Breakdown: The Elements

In this 90 min online international course, my collaborator, Debi Jolly and I demonstrated commonly used techniques for applying frequently requested breakdown effects. Participants were invited to follow along online or to observe. It intention of the workshop was for participants to develop an understanding of how fibers, mediums, and application tools behave together.

USITT National Conference Professional Development Workshop, 2026- Los Angeles Fashion District Fabric Tour

In this full-day Professional Development Workshop, my collaborator Leslie Malitz-Vukosavich and I lead a group of 50 participants through the streets of downtown Los Angeles in hopes of sharing some of the staple fabric stores of the entertainment costume industry. We created a two-sided trifold with QR codes to a Google Map (and a printed version) with fabric stores that we were visiting as a group, and ones bulleted in order from 1-15 so they could go to the shops that interested them most in a choose-your-own-adventure style event!

USITT National Conference Columbus, Ohio, 2024-Dyeing for Surface Design

In this 2-hour hands-on workshop, participants learned to make custom stencils out of easily attainable materials, create prints with stencils and hand-painting on black fabric by removing color, then adding custom color to the discharged areas. The class will resulted in participants taking home 3+ samples of custom printed fabric.

Costume Society of America's 50th Annual Symposium, Washington, D.C., 2024: Surface Design with Stencils, Color Remover, and Textile Mediums.

Four-hour workshop attendees were provided with several types of fabrics and instructed how to create stencils, which they used in combination with Jacquard's decolorant to lift color, and were then instructed to use a variety of textile mediums to color their designs. Participants went home with 5+ samples of their own creation.
